Duncan’s War was my first Douglas Bond book–and I haven’t stopped reading him yet. This one is a very good historical fiction for boys/teens with a deliberate Gospel bent that I read to my son. And a great story. It follows Duncan, the oldest son in a Scottish Covenenter family suffering persecution from the English in the 1660s for worshiping Christ rather than the Church of England. I’ve always been proud of my English-Anglo Saxon Protestant heritage. But I didn’t always know that much about it.
In Duncan’s War, I was given a much better understanding of the oppression of the English through the Crown and the Church of England. I mean, there was a reason the Pilgrims fled to Plymouth Colony a half a century earlier. Adult and youth alike should read this.
